Marc Rauschmann: Hophead with a passion for Craft
More than 20 years ago Marc Rauschmann became a home brewer inspired by the TV programme „Hobbythek” (a clever do-it-yourself guide). His first beers were made with his mother´s 20-litre juice extractor pot. The passion for the aromatic, natural ingredients of beer grew persistently and with it the equipment.
Soon after Marc Rauschmann was brewing in an old copper laundry cauldron up to 100 litres of beer over an open fire in the garden, for his and his friends´ own use. He developed early the idea of a new interpretation of the cultural asset beer.
The hobby became his profession: The enthusiasm of experimenting with ingredients especially malt and hops caused Marc Rauschmann to turn passion into profession in 1990. He studied at the Berlin Research Institute for Brewing and Malting Technology and at the Technical University of Berlin. He graduated as industrial engineer. During his doctorate he was member of the degustation committee at the German Agricultural Society (Deutsche Landwirtschaftsgesellschaft - DLG).
In 2001 Marc Rauschmann joined the Radeberger Gruppe. As master brewer he was responsible for quality management, technology and product development and thus for the quality of the raw material for a long time. His vision of brewing in a rather unusual way was still in his mind.
At Radeberger Gruppe he found support and the freedom to experiment together with his colleague Thorsten Schreiber. They developed a business model which led to the foundation of „Die Internationale Brau-Manufacturen GmbH“ in 2010, led by both Marc Rauschmann and Thorsten Schreiber as managing directors.
With the brand BraufactuM Marc Rauschmann brought the craft beer movement to Germany. Therewith his vision has been fulfilled: With BraufactuM he can for one thing interpret the brewer craftsmanship in a fully new way and design artful new creations, for another thing he can continue his search for the best craft beers. As a passionate hobby chef he is involved in the development of food recommendations for the different craft beer styles as well.
2012 Marc Rauschmann was called to be an international jury member of the „World Beer Cup“. In 2012 his work was crowned with the silver medal for Roog in the category Rauchbier on the World Beer Cup.
